Granger Smith & Wife Amber Expecting Baby Boy Nearly Two Years After Son River's Death

Some happy news for Granger Smith and wife Amber – they’re having another baby!

The 41-year-old country singer and his wife announced on Thursday (March 11) that they are expecting a baby boy, due in August.

“We’re pregnant. I don’t have many words for this video. Life isn’t perfect. Sometimes it’s beat up and broken but it’s NEVER hopeless. God promises that,” Granger wrote on his Instagram. “Our story isn’t finished yet, and neither is yours! Through our suffering and joy, God’s glory radiates through it all! A new Smith boy is dude in August 🙏🏼”

The baby news comes after the couple’s 3-year-old son River tragically died in a drowning accident in June 2019.

In her pregnancy announcement on Instagram, Amber shared a message directed to River.

“If I’ve learned anything over the last 2 years, it’s that I do not have as much control as I think I do,” Amber wrote in her post.

“Sweet Riv, because of the beautiful life you lived, we are forever changed and we will continue honoring your big, little legacy until we come home to you ❤️” Amber added. “To God we give all the glory and we can’t wait to meet our new little boy August 2021. đź’™”

Shortly after River‘s passing, Amber revealed that they donated their son’s organs, which helped save two lives.

Granger and Amber are also parents to son Lincoln, 7, and daughter London, 9.

Congrats Granger and Amber!

Granger Smith's Late Son River's Organs Saved Two Lives

Granger Smith‘s wife Amber reveals that the couple decided to donate their 3-year-old son River‘s organs after he tragically died after drowning accident.

“I’ve always known I wanted to be a donor if anything were to ever happen to me. I just felt that if I had viable organs, why would I go into the ground with them?” Amber wrote on Instagram. “My spirit would be in Heaven, so why not save a life if I could? Never in a million years did I think I would be making that decision for my baby.”

Amber went on to explain the strenuous process that they went through in order to find donors.

“The doctors said donation was quite a process. We would have to search for viable recipients and it could take days,” Amber continued. “We knew River’s spirit was in Heaven, but we couldn’t bear to watch his tiny, earthly body be pumped full of all the medicines for 3 or more more days while they searched. They tried to expedite the process so our family could be in peace, told us they would take him back to operate the next morning, but we wouldn’t know what organs could be used until after. With such a small body, organs had to be measured physically, not just by X-ray.”

In the end, River‘s organs were able to save two lives.

“We got the letter that our tiny, red-headed hero gave life to 2 adults. A 49 year old woman and a 53 year old man. I cried when we opened it. Cried out of sadness & cried out of love,” Amber said.

The 39-year-old country singer and his wife made an appearance at the Dell Children’s Medical Center on Tuesday (June 25) in Austin, Texas to present the hospital with a check for $218,791 in honor of their late son River.

Earlier this month, Granger announced that his son River, 3, had accidentally drowned in their family pool. He was then rushed to Dell Children’s, but unfortunately it was too late.

“I pray that nobody else ever has to go through what we’ve gone through, but if they do, I hope they come here because y’all were incredible,” said Amber.

Granger added: “We watched you through our eyes, through our grieving eyes, in the worst of times, we watched you speak to our little boy like he heard you and we were hearing it. You were speaking to us and it mattered.”

Granger and Amber were wearing River Smith tribute T-shirts, which were sold out online and the couple donated all the proceeds to the hospital.

“I’ll never ever forget it. The first thing we wanted to do was start giving back to Dell Children’s,” Granger shared.
