Lil Nas X Addresses FKA twigs Music Video Comparisons & FKA twigs Responds!

Lil Nas X is speaking out about the comparisons of his video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” to FKA twigs‘ “Cellophane.”

Earlier in the week, the video’s director Andrew Thomas Huang spoke out in a series of posts about the similarities between the videos amid rip-off accusations.

“i want to show love to @fkatwigs & @andrewthomashuang ! the ‘cellophane’ visual is a masterpiece. i was not aware that the visual would serve as a major inspiration for those who worked on the effects of my video,” he said on Instagram on Tuesday (March 30).

“i want to say thank u to twigs for calling me and informing me about the similarities between the two videos, as i was not aware they were so close. was only excited for the video to come out. i understand how hard you worked to bring this visual to life. you deserve so much more love and praise. 🏹🤍”

“thank you @lilnasx for our gentle honest conversations and for acknowledging the inspiration cellophane gave you and your creative team in creating your iconic video! i think what you have done is amazing and i fully support your expression and bravery in pushing culture forward for the queer community. legend status,” FKA twigs wrote in response on her Instagram.

“i want to thank @andrewthomashuang and @kelyvon for helping me create cellophane but also and most importantly i would like to thank sex workers and strippers for providing the physical language to make both videos possible. i have been working with @swarmhive to help support this community and i know all donations to the swarm hardship fund will be welcome during this difficult time. link in bio x.”

FKA Twigs' 'Cellophane' Director Addresses Lil Nas X 'Montero' Video Rip-Off Accusations

When Lil Nas X released the music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” on Friday (March 26), some fans felt that the clip strongly resembled FKA twigs’ “Cellophane,” particularly the pole dance scenes.

And now, the “Cellophane” director Andrew Thomas Huang is speaking out.

The visual artist and film director addressed the conversations on social media in a statement on Sunday (March 28).

“I’m a fan of @LilNasX. ‘Old Town Road’ is iconic. Sharing collaborators is common. Seeing the ‘Cellophane’ choreographer collab with Lil Nas X is awesome (love a Satan dance). Sharing aesthetics and paying homage is part of the creative process,” he wrote.

“Collective consciousness exists. Images are also expensive to make. Years of work went into the creation of ‘Cellophane,’ from physical training to the emotional labor of unpacking Twigs’ life to construct images told her story of trauma and recovery. ‘Cellophane’ was a confession in the most vulnerable sense,” he continued.

“When an artist is in a position of power (amplified with the help of major record labels, social media, PR, etc) and repurposes someone’s labor and ideas to serve their brand image, they cause harm by displacing the efforts of the artists who did the original leg work. Intentional or not, copying other artists’ work happens. Making music videos is a labor of love. The demand for content pushed by major labels renders our work disposable and pits artists against each other. I urge the music community, particularly major record labels like @ColumbiaRecords to respect directors, uphold artistic accountability and honor the ingenuity of artists dedicating their blood sweat and tears to imagine better futures amidst a broken industry. We can do better.”

FKA twigs Explains Why She Won't Answer 'Why Didn't You Leave?' Question About Shia LaBeouf Relationship

FKA twigs bravely opened up about the alleged abuse she suffered during her relationship with Shia LaBeouf and there’s one question she hopes no other victims will ever be asked again.

The 33-year-old entertainer spoke to CBS This Morning host Gayle King, who decided to ask a difficult question.

“Nobody who’s been in this position likes this question, and I often wonder if it’s even appropriate to ask…why didn’t you leave?” Gayle asked.

FKA twigs responded by saying, “I think we have to stop asking that question. I know that you’re asking it out of love, but like, I’m just going to make a stance and say I’m not going to answer that question anymore because the question should really be to the abuser, ‘Why are you holding someone hostage with abuse?’ People say, ‘Oh, it can’t have been that bad, because she would’ve left.’ And it’s like no, because it was that bad, I couldn’t leave.”

“I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say,” he said in an apology after the lawsuit.

“I think it reminds me of some of the gaslighting I experienced when I was with him — the taking some of the blame, but not all of it and then denying it,” twigs said in the interview in response.

She recently went into more detail about her allegations of abuse, claiming he would “shameless brag” about shooting stray dogs, saying it helped him “get into character” for a role. Find out what she said.

FKA twigs Says Shia LaBeouf Would Brag About Shooting Stray Dogs, Recalls How He Allegedly Hid His STD From Her

FKA twigs is going into more detail about her allegations of abuse against Shia LaBeouf in an extensive interview with Elle.

One very disturbing allegation the 33-year-old entertainer made was that LaBeouf would “shameless brag” about shooting stray dogs, saying it helped him “get into character” as a gun-toting henchman for his role in 2020’s The Tax Collector.

FKA twigs confronted him, saying, “I said to him, ‘That’s really bad. Why are you doing that?’ And he was like, ‘Because I take my art seriously. You’re not supporting me in my art. This is what I do. It’s different from singing. I don’t just get up on a stage and do a few moves. I’m in the character.’ He made me feel bad, like I didn’t understand what it was like to be an actor or to do this…Method [acting technique].”

FKA twigs also spoke about the allegation that he knowingly gave her an STD. Elle‘s writer described what happened: “In March 2019…twigs began experiencing symptoms of a possible STD and confronted LaBeouf. The actor confirmed he suffered from a sexually transmitted disease and had never told twigs about his condition before. In fact, in December 2018, LaBeouf had tried to hide his symptoms by applying makeup, ostensibly gaslighting twigs. Horrified by what she was hearing, the singer visited her doctor, where bloodwork confirmed that twigs had been infected with the same disease as LaBeouf.”

She’s also alleging that members of his team knew of the alleged abuse. “There [were] people who have worked with Shia that I openly spoke to about the abuse that I was going through. The reaction that I got [from his team] was pretty much, ‘Okay. Well, it’s Sundance,’” she said.

Originally, FKA twigs wanted to keep their legal proceedings private and she demanded the following: “(1) Seek meaningful and consistent professional help to address his issues around abuse; (2) Donate money to an abused women’s shelter; and (3) Admit he had given twigs an STD and promise transparency around his sexual health status to future sexual partners.” Negotiations stalled, and now the case is being made public in court.

Shia recently responded to all of FKA twigs‘ allegations.
