In a new video on her Instagram page, Ellen called for more women and people of color to be in administrative positions of power at hospitals.

“We have to have more people in administrative positions of power. We have to have more women and more Black women, more women, more people of color, more women of color in these hospitals, as hospital owners and hospital administrators, otherwise nothing is ever going to change,” Ellen said. “It’s the same in Hollywood. As long as you keep the people of color or the Black women down at the bottom and there’s no opportunity for executives in power that look like you, things will never change.”

Ellen Pompeo Shares First Pic From 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 17; Dedicates The Season To Frontline Healthcare Workers

Ellen Pompeo has shared the first pic from the set of Grey’s Anatomy season 17.

The 51-year-old actress, who has played Dr. Meredith Grey for all of those seasons, shared a snap of her and co-star Richard Flood in PPE on the set.

“First time back in my scrubs… since we shut down filming 7000 healthcare workers have died from Covid,” Ellen captioned the shot.

She added, “I dedicate my season 17 to all who have fallen and to everyone of you who by the grace of God is still standing… this season is for you with humility and a bit of humor to get us through and endless amounts of gratitude.”

“I hope we do you proud 🙏🏼❤️ @greysabc #seasonseventeen @richardfloodofficial.”

Earlier in the year, after Grey’s had shut down production and the pandemic had worsened in the United States, Ellen shared her many thanks to the real medical professionals who were on the front lines.

“This is my nurses and doctors and all the health-care workers appreciation post,” Ellen had written. “Many of us have the privilege to self-quarantine and isolate and try to stay healthy, and none of you have that privilege. You all have to be on the front lines of this thing and what is certainly bad now but will most definitely get worse in the next couple of weeks.”

The cast of Grey’s also came together for a tribute video for front line responders. Watch that here…

Ellen Pompeo Opens Up About How Sandra Oh's Exit From 'Grey's Anatomy' Affected Her

Ellen Pompeo looked back on both Sandra Oh and Patrick Dempsey‘s exits from Grey’s Anatomy affected her.

The 51-year-old star chatted with Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast, saying that Sandra‘s exit weighed on her more than Patrick‘s exit did.

Ellen admitted that she had a fear about Sandra leaving and wondered if there even was “a show without Sandra?”

She added that if she had left along with Sandra, she worried about being typecast.

Ellen went on, saying, “Sandra is a different kind of actor. … You never doubt whether Sandra Oh is gonna work again, right? She’ll work forever, right? But for me, I had to think, Am I gonna work again? Or am I going to be so typecast?”

However, with Patrick‘s exit, Ellen was determined to stay and prove that she could carry the show without “the man”.

“I could’ve left because the man left, which is not a story that I want to tell. Like, ‘He’s not here anymore, so I have to go.’ So that story then becomes, ‘What can I do without the man?’ Because they had put that in my head for so long that I was no good without him,” she says.

Ellen adds that she stayed and one of the reasons was that she wanted “[to] prove to [herself] that they were wrong in all of the things they put into [her] head over all of those years.”

Ellen Pompeo Talks About Watching Herself Age on 'Grey's Anatomy'

Ellen Pompeo is opening up about her 15 years on Grey’s Anatomy and what it has been like to watch herself age on the show.

The 50-year-old actress is the latest guest on Dax Shepard‘s Armchair Expert podcast and she opened up about heading into season 17 of the medical drama series.

Ellen said that watching herself age “from 33 to 50 on screen [is] not so fun.”

“You really see [the difference] because I’m in the same clothes [playing] the same character. So the way I see myself aging — it’s a motherf–ker,” she added (via TV Line).

Ellen also discussed how long she thinks she’ll remain on the show.

“I do not want to be the grapes dying on the vine,” she said. “Certainly, to dip out sooner rather than later at this point… [and] leave while the show is still on top is definitely a goal. I’m not trying to stay on the show forever. No way. If I get too aggravated and am no longer grateful there, I should not be there.”

Ellen reunited with one of her Grey’s co-stars over the summer for a hike and we have all of the photos!
