Michael Fassbender is attached to star in David Fincher‘s upcoming assassin drama for Netflix, The Killer.

Fincher has been attached to the project since 2007 and Brad Pitt was originally attached to star at that time.

THR is reporting that the film may actually go into production sometime this year.

The film is being written by Andrew Kevin Walker, the scribe who wrote Fincher‘s hit films Se7en, The Game and Fight Club.

Michael would star as an “assassin who begins to psychologically crack as he develops a conscience, even as his clients continue to demand his skills.”

Michael has not had a movie come out since 2019′s X-Men: Dark Phoenix, so this could be his first major project back!

David Fincher is touching upon the tensions he and Jake Gyllenhaal faced while making 2007′s Zodiac.

In a former interview, Jake previously said that the famed director “paints with people” and “it’s tough to be a color.”

Fincher is now responding in a new interview, where he called their drama on set an “extremely simple” situation.

“Jake was in the unenviable position of being very young and having a lot of people vie for his attention, while working for someone who does not allow you to take a day off,” David told the New York Times. “I believe you have to have everything out of your peripheral vision….I don’t think he’d ever been asked to concentrate on minutiae, and I think he was very distracted. He had a lot of people whispering that Jarhead was going to be this massive movie and put him in this other league, and every weekend he was being pulled to go to the Santa Barbara film festival and the Palm Springs film festival and the [expletive] Catalina film festival. And when he’d show up for work, he was very scattered.”

David continued, adding that the tension died down by the end of filming and Jake even apologized. “I don’t want to make excuses for my behavior. There are definitely times when I can be confrontational if I see someone slacking. People go through rough patches all the time. I do. So I try to be compassionate about it. But. It’s: Four. Hundred. Thousand. Dollars. A day. And we might not get a chance to come back and do it again,” he added.

“I tell actors all the time: I’m not going to cut around your hangover, I’m not going to cut around your dog dying, I’m not going to cut around the fact that you just fired your agent or your agent just fired you,” he added. “Once you get here, the only thing I care about is, Did we tell the story?”

David also just criticized one of the biggest films of the past few years.

Acclaimed director David Fincher is sharing his thoughts on the movie Joker and why he considers it to be a “betrayal of the mentally ill.”

Fincher talked about Joker‘s success in contrast to his movie Fight Club, which was much more difficult to get made back in the late 1990s.

“Nobody would have thought they had a shot at a giant hit with Joker had The Dark Knight not been as massive as it was,” Fincher told The Telegraph.

“I don’t think ­anyone would have looked at that material and thought, Yeah, let’s take [Taxi Driver’s] Travis Bickle and [The King of Comedy’s] Rupert Pupkin and conflate them, then trap him in a betrayal of the mentally ill, and trot it out for a billion dollars,” Fincher added.

The two characters that Fincher referenced were both played by Robert De Niro, who happens to appear in Joker.

Fincher said that after early screenings of Fight Club, “the general view afterwards among the studio types was, ‘Our careers are over.’ The fact we got that film made in 1999 is still, to my mind, a miracle.”

The upcoming Fincher movie Mank is getting tons of Oscar buzz and the trailer was released last month.

We have some upsetting news for fans of the Netflix series Mindhunter.

David Fincher, the executive producer of the series and also the director of most of the episodes, has said it’s very unlikely that a third season will be made.

“We lived [in Pittsburgh] for almost three years. Not year in, year out, but we spent probably six or seven months a year over three years. We had an apartment there, and a car. Mindhunter was a lot for me,” Fincher said in a new interview with Vulture.

When asked if Mindhunter is “done” as far as he’s concerned, Fincher said, “I think probably.”

“Listen, for the viewership that it had, it was an expensive show. We talked about ‘Finish Mank and then see how you feel,’ but I honestly don’t think we’re going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic about dollars have to equal eyeballs,” Fincher added.

He also said, “It’s a 90-hour work week. It absorbs everything in your life. When I got done, I was pretty exhausted, and I said, ‘I don’t know if I have it in me right now to break season three.’”

The future of the series was left in limbo back in January when Jonathan Groff and the other cast members’ contracts expired.

Fincher‘s new Netflix movie Mank will be released in December.

David Fincher has directed the upcoming movie Mank, marking his first feature film since 2014′s Gone Girl.

In Mank, “1930s Hollywood is re-evaluated through the eyes of scathing social critic and alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman) as he races to finish the screenplay of Citizen Kane for Orson Welles (Tom Burke).”

Citizen Kane is considered to have one of the greatest scripts of all time and it won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

Mank also stars Amanda Seyfried as Marion Davies and Lily Collins as Rita Alexander.

The movie does not yet have a release date, but it’s expected to premiere on Netflix in the fall. These first look photos were released on Saturday (September 5) to coincide with the 79th anniversary of Citizen Kane‘s wide theatrical opening.

Amanda Seyfried is opening up about getting a scene exactly right.

The 34-year-old actress opened up in an interview with Collider about her experience with director David Fincher while filming Mank, the biopic about Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz.

She described the experience as “the hardest [she’s] ever worked,” and said he made her shoot one scene approximately 200 times ”for an entire week.”

“I was part of scenes with tons of people in it and we would do it for an entire week. I can’t tell you how many takes we did, but I would guess 200, maybe. I could be wrong and could be way off,” she said.

“Um, I could be underestimating by five days of one scene when I didn’t have one line… ‘You think I can just relax?’ No, because there are probably about nine or 10 different camera angles that had been on me at one point.”

Amanda Seyfried is taking on a new role.

The 33-year-old Mean Girls actress is set to star in Netflix‘s Mank, about the Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, according to Variety on Tuesday (October 15).

As previously reported, Gary Oldman is playing the titular role in the David Fincher film.

The film will reportedly be shot in black and white, with production beginning in November.

The story will follow the screenwriter’s “tumultuous development of the script for Citizen Kane — which would go on to be considered one of the best films of all time — alongside director Orson Welles. Despite the Citizen Kane’s critical success, the script was the only part of the film to win an Oscar.”
