Dakota Fanning is taking on yet another new role!

The 27-year-old actress will star in Showtime’s Ripley, a drama based on Patricia Highsmith’s quintet of Tom Ripley novels, TVLine reported Thursday (March 11).

Fleabag star Andrew Scott will play the title role in the adaptation.

Here’s a plot summary: the show will “follow Tom Ripley as a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York. When Tom is hired by a wealthy businessman to travel to Italy and try to convince the man’s vagabond son to return home, his acceptance of the job ‘is the first step into a complex life of deceit.’”

Dakota will play Marge Sherwood, an American living in Italy who suspects that Tom’s affability hides darker motives. Johnny Flynn joins as Dickie Greenleaf.

“Dakota Fanning is the perfect choice to play the deliciously complicated Marge opposite Andrew Scott’s Tom Ripley. She’s an actor that brings smarts and vulnerability to every part, with so much bubbling beneath the surface. We can’t wait to see her sink her teeth into this role in Steve Zaillian’s Ripley,” Showtime’s Amy Israel said.

Production starts in Italy later in 2021.

A few days prior, it was revealed that Dakota also has a new role in another Showtime show!

Dakota Fanning is taking on a big new role.

The 27-year-old actress will play Susan Ford in the upcoming Showtime anthology TV series The First Lady, Variety reported Tuesday (March 2).

Susan is the daughter of Betty Ford and President Gerald Ford, who will be played in the series by Michelle Pfeiffer and Aaron Eckhart respectively.

She was a teenager during her father’s time in the White House and is said to have often introduced progressive ideas to her family, according to the outlet.

The show will star Viola Davis as Michelle Obama, Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt, and O-T Fagbenle as President Barack Obama, and is described as a “reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House.”

Dakota will star as a regular in six episodes. She previously co-starred with Michelle Pfeiffer in 2001′s I Am Sam.

Dakota and Elle Fanning are delaying their upcoming movie together again, Deadline is reporting.

The Nightingale is set on the eve of World War II and follows the sisters’ struggle to survive and resist the German occupation of France. The story was inspired by the courageous women of the French Resistance who helped downed Allied airmen escape Nazi-occupied territory and hid Jewish children.

The actress sisters would have played sisters in the movie, too, which is based on Kristin Hannah‘s novel of the same name.

The flick was pushed to December 22 of this year, because of the COVID=19 pandemic. Now, Sony has opted to move it again.

This time the movie is set for a December 23, 2022 release.

Elle and Dakota Fanning are showing off their wine-drinking skills!

The 22-year-old The Great actress took to her Instagram on Saturday (August 1) to share a video of she and the 26-year-old The Alienist actress to partake in the viral #WineChallenge, which Cameron Diaz also recently completed.

In the video, Elle sits between Dakota‘s legs while holding the bottom of a wine glass in her mouth.

She then tipped her head back while trying to pour the wine into Dakota‘s mouth.

Back in early July, it was announced that Hulu picked up Elle‘s show The Great for a second season.

Dakota Fanning is opening up about working with Brittany Murphy, who sadly died in 2009.

The 26-year-old Alienist star spoke about her experience filming 2003′s Uptown Girls during Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday night (July 15).

In the film, Dakota played the 8-year-old Ray, with Brittany starring as her nanny, Molly.

“She just taught me to always have fun. She was, like, such a ray of light and had such a playful spirit. So I think, just, she made every day special for me. She was so wonderful,” Dakota said.
