Clint Eastwood To Direct, Produce & Star in 'Cry Macho' Based On 1978 Book

Clint Eastwood has lined up his next project, Deadline reports.

The 90-year-old Oscar winning director will be back behind the camera and in front of it for Cry Macho, an adaption of N. Richard Nash‘s 1978 novel.

The story centers on a onetime rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder who, in 1978, takes a job from an ex-boss to bring the man’s young son home and away from his alcoholic mom.

Crossing rural Mexico on their back way to Texas, the unlikely pair faces an unexpectedly challenging journey, during which the world-weary horseman may find his own sense of redemption through teaching the boy what it means to be a good man.

The screenplay, which was originally penned by Nash in the 1980s for a movie adaption, will have a rewrite from Nick Schenk.

Earlier in the year, Clint‘s son Scott opened up about his dad’s birthday plans during quarantine. See what he said here…

During the interview, Scott revealed that they’re keeping things low-key for the celebration on May 31.

“You know we are just going to do a family thing. Very calm, very mellow. He doesn’t like birthdays,” he revealed, saying they’ll have a family lunch.

“We’ll sneak a cake in there, definitely,” he added.

Scott‘s new movie, The Outpost, is heading to theaters in July. The film centers on the 2009 attack by 400 Taliban insurgents in the Battle of Kamdesh in the Afghanistan War. Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV became one of the most decorated units of the 19-year conflict. Find out who else stars in the film!

Clint Eastwood, a Former Trump Voter, Endorses Bloomberg for President

Clint Eastwood has revealed that he no longer is a supporter of Donald Trump after voting for him in the 2016 presidential election.

The 89-year-old actor and director, who also supported Mitt Romney during the 2012 election, is now endorsing Michael Bloomberg for president.

“The best thing we could do is just get Mike Bloomberg in there,” he said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

Eastwood says that he approves of “certain things” that Trump has done as president, but he would have liked to see him do it “in a more genteel way, without tweeting and calling people names. I would personally like for him to not bring himself to that level.”

Clint has said that he voted for Trump because he feared Hillary Clinton would “follow in Obama’s footsteps… There’s been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle. She’s made a lot of dough out of being a politician. I gave up dough to be a politician. I’m sure that Ronald Reagan gave up dough to be a politician.”

In the past, Clint was elected mayor of the wealthy California town Carmel-by-the-Sea and served a two-year term from 1986 to 1988.

Clint Eastwood Has Worst Box Office Opening in Four Decades With 'Richard Jewell'

Clint Eastwood‘s latest film is unfortunately not a box office smash.

Richard Jewell opened to a mere $5 million at the box office in its opening weekend, Variety reported on Sunday (December 15).

The film, about the security guard falsely accused by the media for playing a part in the 1996 Olympics bombing, garnered critical acclaim, but not audience demand.

The movie currently has a 73% Fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

This marks the 89-year-old director’s worst openings in four decades. The only one to have a weaker opening was his 1980 film, Billy Bronco, at $3.6 million.

“Given the crowded market, sources estimate that Richard Jewell could tap out in North America with $25 million to $30 million and might result in tens of millions in theatrical losses. The movie cost $45 million to produce,” Variety reported.

Jon Hamm & 'Richard Jewell' Cast Respond To Backlash Over Film at Atlanta Screening!

The cast of Clint Eastwood‘s movie Richard Jewell are defending Olivia Wilde‘s role!

While attending the Atlanta screening of Richard Jewell at Rialto Center for the Arts on Tuesday (December 10), the cast spoke out for the first time since the Atlanta Journal Constitution called the film “defamatory.”

In the film, Olivia Wilde portrays AJC reporter Kathy Scruggs offering to trade sex with FBI agent John Shaw for the name of their prime suspect in the 1996 Olympic bombing in Atlanta, Richard Jewell.

Jon Hamm, who plays Tom Shaw in the movie, called the comments ridiculous: “It’s my understanding that the people making these accusations haven’t seen the film yet. I kind of feel like the irony in that is sort of ridiculous. Kathy is portrayed by Olivia in this film as she was, which is an incredibly nuanced individual. To reduce her to this one thing is not fair,” he said (via 11 Alive). “I think that there were certainly suggestions of impropriety with her character, but there are also some suggestions of impropriety with the character that I play and that’s part of the tragedy of this story.”

Paul Walter Hauser, who stars as Jewell, didn’t appear to be concerned by the backlash.

“I think the feeling is that it sorta came out of nowhere,” Paul explained. “This project has been around for about 5 years. It was a very famous screen play. It had Leo (Leonardo DeCaprio) attached to it at some point. They could have done their digging. It was the last minute decision by the AJC, and while I appreciate their opinion I’m not going to let it be a shrouded or shadow over the celebration of this moment for the Jewell family.”

Jon Hamm and Paul were joined at the event by their co-stars Kathy Bates, Sam Rockwell, Franco Castan and Josh Henry, director Clint Eastwood, Jewell‘s real-life mother Barbara “Bobi” Jewell and Watson Bryant Jr., real-life attorney and friend of Richard Jewell.

And I’m getting closer and closer and its Warner Bros. and its smoke and I got almost up there and I thought, the whole studio’s burning down, maybe I’ll go in and see if I can retrieve something,” Clint explains. “So we went on the sound stage and started working and we forgot about it and… everybody said, ‘The studio’s been evacuated!’ And I said, ‘We’re not evacuated, we’re here working!’”
