Chiwetel Ejiofor Set to Star in New Series ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’

Chiwetel Ejiofor is taking on an exciting new role!

According to Variety, the Doctor Strange actor has been cast in the upcoming series The Man Who Fell to Earth which will air on Paramount Plus.

The show is based on Walter Tevis’ 1963 science fiction novel of the same name, which was adapted into a film starring David Bowie in 1976.

Variety writes that the series had previously been in development at Hulu, but that Paramount Plus “aggressively pursued the project” when Hulu ultimately decided not to move forward with it.

Chiwetel will play an alien who arrives on Earth during a crucial period in human evolution and must reckon with his own past in order to save humankind.

Showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet said in a statement, “Chiwetel Ejiofor’s stage and film career are staggering in their bravery, commitment and quality. He’s everything we could imagine and a million things we can’t. We couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Anne Hathaway & Chiwetel Ejiofor Steal A Diamond in 'Locked Down' Trailer

Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor are a couple on a mission in the brand new trailer for Locked Down.

The flick centers on Linda and Paxton, played by Anne and Chiwetel, who who decide to break up only to find themselves stuck with each other during a mandatory lockdown.

While living together proves a challenge, the two come up with a scheme to steal a priceless diamond from the U.K.’s luxury department store, Harrods, to ease their financial concerns.

“The sheer act of making it, of doing something so collaborative and audacious made us all very focused and open — and strangely free,” Anne shared about filming the movie during lockdown in London. “Like the odds were so against us any way that it made me want to lean into the exhilaration and take risks with my performance.”

She added, “It was scary taking my mask off every day, and so I really appreciated how committed the crew was to keeping their masks on — even when we were shooting in hot rooms and they were carrying heavy camera and lighting equipment they were always, always masked. Their professionalism helped keep me safe, and I was and am incredibly grateful to them.”

Locked Down will premiere on January 14 on HBO Max.

If you missed it, Anne recently spoke about her biggest challenge during the pandemic. See what it was here…

“My agent told me just to go. I wasn’t a dancer, I wasn’t a singer, and I was in this little short purple skirt with gogo boots,” Michelle continued. “We had these dancing auditions and it was literally like A Chorus Line. This line goes, and then the next line goes, so, I kept sneaking in the back. Finally, it was only me and I did.”

“I did get the part, shockingly enough,” Michelle concluded about Grease 2.

Later in the show, Michelle Pfeiffer gets called out by James about becoming a throwback Thursday queen on Instagram – Watch more after the cut!
