Bob Odenkirk's 'Nobody' Is No. 1 at the Box Office!

There’s a new number one at the box office!

Universal’s action flick Nobody, led by Bob Odenkirk, took the top spot over the weekend at the box office in North America, Deadline reported Sunday (March 28).

The movie brought in $6.7 million in its first weekend, amid theater reopenings as the industry continues to evolve with the pandemic.

The movie also follows a trend of action movie success in the pandemic.

“These guy-action pics like Unhinged and Liam Neeson’s The Marksman have been doing a 5x multiple off their opening during the pandemic; and Nobody is poised to do much more with its A- CinemaScore and Rotten Tomatoes of 79% certified fresh. Nobody made $2.54M on Friday, $2.55M Saturday and $1.6M on Sunday. Universal exists show 62% male, 38% female attending, with 56% under 35 and 44% over. Diversity demos were 47% Caucasian, 21% Hispanic, 18% African American, and 6% Asian,” the outlet reported.

“We’re very gratified that major markets such as New York and Los Angeles are available for our release of Nobody. Audiences in these markets, and every other market, have embraced our film. We’re also very excited to see Nobody opening in additional theatres and markets over the next several weeks, especially in Canada, which is still significantly impaired in comparison to the US,” said Universal’s Jim Orr.

Here’s a plot summary: “Bob Odenkirk stars as Hutch Mansell, an underestimated and overlooked dad and husband, taking life’s indignities on the chin and never pushing back. A nobody. When two thieves break into his suburban home one night, Hutch declines to defend himself or his family, hoping to prevent serious violence. His teenage son, Blake (Gage Munroe), is disappointed in him and his wife, Becca (Connie Nielsen), seems to pull only further away. The aftermath of the incident strikes a match to Hutch’s long-simmering rage, triggering dormant instincts and propelling him on a brutal path that will surface dark secrets and lethal skills. In a barrage of fists, gunfire and squealing tires, Hutch must save his family from a dangerous adversary (Aleksey Serebryakov)—and ensure that he will never be underestimated as a nobody again.

Here's Who Almost Played Michael Scott on 'The Office' & Why He Lost the Part to Steve Carell

Steve Carell played the iconic Michael Scott on The Office and now, fans are being clued in on who almost won the role: Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad star Bob Odenkirk!

“We were circling Bob Odenkirk. He was available. He had a great reputation in the comedy world, and he hadn’t yet become famous. He wasn’t really well known,” one of the producers said in the book “The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s.”

The producer added that “he had an edge to him. His take was as funny as Steve’s, but it was darker…He was a little tougher and meaner.”

So why did the producers go with Steve and not Bob? Apparently, Steve read as more of a “jerk and a douche,” while Bob’s take was more “asshole.”

“The worst thing I have ever had to do ever,” casting agent Allison Jones recalled, “is to tell Bob Odenkirk’s agent that he didn’t get The Office … Believe me, it was a bummer to make that call and I do suspect the show would have worked with Bob Odenkirk.”
