Anthony Hopkins is opening up about his first thoughts of The Silence of the Lambs, as the movie celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The now 83-year-old actor revealed during Variety’s “Actors on Actors” video series that he thought it was a children’s story at first.

The script was sent to him in 1989 when he was still performing in M. Butterfly on the London stage.

“After 10 pages, I phoned my agent. I said, ‘Is this a real offer? I want to know. This is the best part I’ve ever read,’” Anthony recalled. “I read the rest of the script, and Jonathan [Demme, director] came over on a Saturday afternoon and we had dinner. And I said, ‘Is this for real?’ And he said, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘OK.’”

He continued, saying that Jonathan “was such a wonderful guy to work with. I couldn’t believe my luck, and I was scared to speak to you [Jodie Foster]. I thought, ‘She just won an Oscar.’”

The film earned Jodie, as well as Anthony Oscars for their performances.

The co-stars virtually reunited and reflected on the legacy of their movie in Variety‘s Actors on Actors series.

“We didn’t get to speak too much before the actual read-through. We just sort of kind of waved from across the room and then sat down at the table,” Jodie.

“And as you launched into Hannibal Lecter, I felt a chill come over the room. In a way, it was like we were almost too scared to talk to each other after that,” she went on to say to her co-star.

“I was naturally nervous, an Englishman — a Limey like me, a Welshman — playing an American serial killer. And I remember [director Jonathan Demme], when the camera picked me up, he said, ‘Oh, my God. That’s it. Hopkins. You’re so weird!’” Anthony recalled.

“And I said, ‘Why, thank you.’ And they wanted the lighting girl to come into my cell, and I said, ‘What are you doing in my cell?’ And [Jonathan] said, ‘Oh, my God.’ So I knew I had pressed the right button,” he went on to say.

“I felt like I never had an actor’s personality. Much to my chagrin, it does not come naturally to me, or easily. I’m much more of a reader or a thinker. I’m a chess mover. Acting was just something that was my family’s job, my family’s profession, that I fell into. I have to say, at least once a week, I say, ‘Oh, I’m never going act again.’ But it draws you back in. I think it’s good for somebody like me, who does live in their head a lot — to get out of my head and have to live in my body. And I think that’s benefited me as a person,” Jodie added.

Anthony Hopkins is marking a major milestone!

The 82-year-old actor took to his Instagram on Tuesday (December 29) to reveal that he is celebrating 45 years of sobriety.

“Hello everyone. Good morning. Well, new year is coming. It’s been a tough year, full of grief and sadness for many, many, many people. But 45 years ago today, I had a wake-up call,” Anthony shared.

He continued, “Drinking myself to death. I’m not preaching, but I got a message, a little thought that said, ‘Do you want to live or die?’ and I said, ‘I want to live.’ And suddenly the relief came, and my life has been amazing, and I may have off days and little bits of doubt, and all that, but all in all, I say hang in there.”

Anthony then went on share a message with his young fans that are suffering with addiction.

“Today is the tomorrow you were so worried about yesterday,” Anthony shared, while telling “young people” not to “give up.”

“Just keep in there, just keep fighting. Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid,” Anthony concluded. “That’s sustained me through my life. And that’s all I’ve got to say, and happy new year. This is going to be the best year. Thank you.”

Mark Fatiss, Imogen Poots, Rufus Sewell, and Olivia Williams also star in the film, which is currently scheduled to premiere in limited theaters in New York and Los Angeles on December 18.

Brad Pitt is getting candid about some personal topics in a new interview.

The 55-year-old Ad Astra actor joined his Legends of the Fall and Meet Joe Black co-star Anthony Hopkins, 81, in the discussion with Interview magazine.

“I’m realizing, as a real act of forgiveness for myself for all the choices that I’ve made that I’m not proud of, that I value those missteps, because they led to some wisdom, which led to something else,” Brad said. “You can’t have one without the other. I see it as something I’m just now getting my arms around at this time in my life. But I certainly don’t feel like I can take credit for any of it.”

On his struggles with drinking in the past, Brad shared that he viewed it as “escape” and a “disservice” to himself, though to “some degree” it was necessary.

On his own struggles with alcoholism, Anthony Hopkins added that he’s not an “evangelist about it” and that that part of his life occurred for a reason and he’s moved past it.

“So you’re embracing all your mistakes,” Brad replied. “You’re saying, ‘Let’s be our foibles, our embarrassment. There’s beauty in that.’”

Brad also said that thinks we’re living at a time when people are “judgemental and quick to treat people as disposable. … We’ve always placed great importance on the mistake. But the next move, what you do after the mistake, is what really defines a person. We’re all going to make mistakes. But what is the next step? We don’t, as a culture, seem to stick around to see what that person’s next step is. And that’s the part I find so much more invigorating and interesting.”

“I’m human,” Brad Pitt continued. “We’re human, we want purpose, we want meaning in our lives. But to attain that, the key is two things: staying creative and being with the people you love.”

Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins hit the red carpet for the premiere of The Two Popes on Monday night (November 18) at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Calif.

The two legendary actors looked handsome in suits as they attended the premiere of their upcoming Netflix movie during the 2019 AFI Fest.

Also in attendance was fellow cast member Juan Minujin, director Fernando Meirelles, and screenwriter Anthony McCarten along with the Head of Original Films at Netflix Scott Stuber and wife Molly Sims.

The Two Popes follows Pope Benedict (Hopkins) and the future Pope Francis (Pryce) as they try to find common ground to forge a new path for the Catholic Church.

Amazon’s Alexa has lost her voice and they found some replacements, as seen in the company’s new Super Bowl commercial!

The commercial kicks off with Alexa coming down with a cough and being unable to talk. Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos wants to know how this is even possible and his employees tell him that they have some replacements ready.
