Adrienne Warren is heading to TV after taking over Broadway!

The 33-year-old actress has been cast as Mamie Till-Mobley, the mother of Emmett Till, in the upcoming ABC six-episode limited series The Women of the Movement.

Adrienne just earned a Tony nomination for her work in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical and she’s expected to win the Best Actress prize.

The Women of the Movement will center on “Mamie Till-Mobley (Warren), who devoted her life to seeking justice for her son Emmett Till.”

The synopsis of the series, via Deadline, says that, “After the brutal murder of her son in the Jim Crow South, Mamie, a soft-spoken young mother in Chicago, put her own life on the line to seek justice in his name. Unwilling to let Emmett’s murder disappear from the headlines, Mamie chose to bear her pain on the world’s stage, and as a result ignited the civil rights movement as we know it today.”

The new series has a producing team that includes Jay-Z and Will Smith. It will premiere in 2021.

Adrienne Warren and Derrick Baskin hit the red carpet at the 2020 Grammy Awards on Sunday (January 26) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The two actors represented the stars of Broadway at music’s biggest night. They took the night off from performing in their respective shows, Tina and Ain’t Too Proud, to travel to the west coast for the show.

Derrick and the cast of Ain’t Too Proud were nominated for Best Musical Theater Album, but the award went to Hadestown.

Anais Mitchell, the composer and lyricist of Hadestown, is pictured accepting the award at the premiere ceremony before the big show.

Adrienne Warren sits down for an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night (November 26) in New York City.

The 32-year-old Broadway star opened up about playing the legendary singer Tina Turner in the new musical Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, which is now open.

Adrienne also starred in the London production last year and talked about meeting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when they saw the show. “They were really nice… They’re incredible,” she said.

At the show’s opening night on Broadway, Adrienne got to meet “American royalty,” Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King.

Adrienne said she was more nervous to meet “Oprah, of course. Come on, she’s my queen. She’s the biggest Tina Turner fan in the world so I was actually more nervous to do in front of her because I knew how much a fan she is. I don’t think Harry knows Tina.”

The 32-year-old actress, who already has one Tony nomination to her name, better get ready to accept an award at next year’s Tonys… according to Oprah Winfrey!

Oprah was at the opening night performance and she went backstage right after the show to greet Adrienne in the cast. In a video shared to her Instagram account, the media mogul and former talk show host raved to the Broadway star about her work.

Adrienne is of course playing the role of Tina Turner, who was also at the opening night show.

“Watching TINA on Broadway with @tinaturner. Nothing like it. ELECTRIFYyyyying! See you at the Tonys @adriennelwarren! Swipe left to see what I’m talking about,” Oprah wrote.

Jake walked the carpet with his producing partner Riva Marker and Tom was seen meeting up with fellow Marvel star Clark Gregg, who attended the show with his father-in-law Joel Grey.

Slave Play is running on Broadway now through January 5.
