Barbra Streisand is opening up about sexism that she faced back in the 1980s in Hollywood on her film sets.
While speaking with director Robert Rodriguez at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, the 75-year-old legendary entertainer argued that both men and women did not like the idea of a woman calling the shots on a major motion picture.
“There were a lot of older people,” Barbra said. “They don’t want to see a woman director. I don’t know how many women wanted to see a woman director.”
Her hit films Yentl and The Prince of Tides received tons of Oscar nominations, but she was not acknowledged with a nomination for directing them.
“I must have been more hurt than I thought, because I didn’t want to direct for years,” Barbra said as she discussed her hiatus from making the film industry.
Barbra then went on to say that she wants more women to get into power in Hollywood.
“Not enough women are directing now,” Barbra said. “I love when I see a woman’s name on the film, and then I want to see it be good.”

“It was kind of a disaster. They didn’t have a scope lens for the projector, but I let them show it anyway because I didn’t know you couldn’t, so it looked like caca. Then when it got to the final climax, the lights came up, but then someone realized and shut the lights. Then at the height of it all, when everyone is pointing their guns at each other, the power went out. It was a f**king disaster,” Quentin explained.
