Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Reps Explain Their Names on Daughter Lilibet Diana's Birth Certificate

There was a lot of talk about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s baby daughter, Lilibet Diana‘s birth certificate, which was revealed this afternoon.

On the certificate, which was obtained from TMZ, Harry‘s name listed was a point of many conversations as it read his first name as “The Duke of Sussex” and his last as “His Royal Highness”.

The reason many questioned this was because after Harry and Meghan left their senior royal roles and stepped down officially from the Royal Family, they agreed to no longer use those stylings and instead use only the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

However, the answer to this is fairly simple – it’s his legal name, which the document asks for.

Harry and Meghan‘s rep confirmed (via ET Canada) that the certificate calls for their legal and maiden names.

So, The Duke of Sussex, High Royal Highness, is a legal name for Harry. Meanwhile, Meghan was credited just as “Rachel Meghan Markle” because that is her maiden name.

Just recently, the couple purchased domain names for Lilibet.
