Hilarie Burton Looks Back on Pete Wentz's Inappropriate Storyline on 'One Tree Hill'

Hilarie Burton is reflecting on Pete Wentz‘s time on One Tree Hill.

During a new interview with People, the 38-year-old actress looked back on her on-screen romance with the 42-year-old Fall Out Boy member, admitting that his storyline was inappropriate.

“Poor Pete. Pete really thought he was just coming on the show to play like, a cool dude,” Hilarie shared.

“And the next thing you know, it looks like he’s having an affair with a high school girl,” Hilarie added. “And that is forever now on TV. You don’t get to takesie backsie that one.”

Back on season three of One Tree Hill, Hilarie‘s character Peyton was a high school senior when she booked Pete and Fall Out Boy for a performance at the nightclub Tric.

Pete then returned and sparked a fling with Peyton and accompanied she and her friends on a trip to a cabin in the woods.

“Yeah, I don’t think he realized our characters were in high school because we were all in our 20s in real life,” Hilarie explained. “And so it wasn’t until even I watched it back that I was like, ‘Oh, there’s a lot of insinuation in here. I thought we were just kissing buddies, but this looks bad in the edit.’”
