Kate McKinnon Exits Hulu Series 'The Dropout' About Theranos Founder Elizabeth Holmes

Kate McKinnon will no longer be starring in the Hulu limited series The Dropout based on the rise and fall of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, Deadline reports.

Back in April 2019, Hulu picked up the show for a straight-to-series order with the 37-year-old Saturday Night Live cast member attached to star in and executive produce the show.

It is being reported that The Dropout is still going to be moving forward without Kate and the search for the new actress to play Elizabeth.

The show will also be produced by the ABC News trio behind the The Dropout podcast, which launched in 2019 and then turned into a two-hour documentary on ABC News in March of that year.

“The story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? How did the woman once heralded as ‘the next Steve Jobs’ find herself facing criminal charges — to which she pleaded not guilty — and up to 20 years in jail? How did her technology, meant to revolutionize healthcare, potentially put millions of patients at risk? And how did so many smart people get it so wrong along the way?” the podcast describes of its subject matter.

Elizabeth dropped out of Stanford to launch a healthcare technology company called Theranos, which was exposed to be a fraud. She was indicted on nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud for distributing blood tests with falsified results to customers.

If you missed it, Kate McKinnon will still be playing this other public figure in a new project!
