Kate McKinnon to Play Elizabeth Holmes in Upcoming Series 'The Dropout'

Kate McKinnon is taking on a big new role!

The 35-year-old Saturday Night Live comedian will star in and executive produce a limited series called The Dropout, about the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her company Theranos, Deadline reported on Wednesday (April 10).

Hulu is currently closing a deal on the series, according to the report.

Kate will play Elizabeth in the series, which is expected to be six to ten episodes in length. The show will also be produced by the ABC News trio behind the The Dropout podcast, which then turned into a two-hour documentary on ABC News in March.

“The story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? How did the woman once heralded as ‘the next Steve Jobs’ find herself facing criminal charges — to which she pleaded not guilty — and up to 20 years in jail? How did her technology, meant to revolutionize healthcare, potentially put millions of patients at risk? And how did so many smart people get it so wrong along the way?” the podcast describes of its subject matter.

Elizabeth dropped out of Stanford to launch a healthcare technology company called Theranos, which was exposed to be a fraud. She was indicted on nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud for distributing blood tests with falsified results to customers.
